EDWIN SEWALL NELSON
Edwin died on 15 May 1938 in Gilmanton, NH, aged 95 yrs, 11 mos, 27 das. The son of John F. and Huldah (Kimball) Nelson, he was born in Gilmanton on 18 May 1842.
He was a veteran of the 12th New Hampshire Infantry, having served in Company B, from 11 Aug 1862 to 21 June 1865. He had been severely wounded at Chancellorsville on 3 Mar '63.

His 1938 death record (at left) lists him as being the last Civil War veteran in Gilmanton. An article printed five years earlier had listed him as the "oldest" veteran in town:
From the Farmington News, on Friday, 26 May 1933: Edwin S Nelson, oldest Civil War veteran of Gilmanton, observed the 91st anniversary of his birth last week. He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilmanton Iron Works. [gravestone photo to be added in the future]
