Winfield Scott Hancock Post, No. 9
Alstead, NH

Named after General Winfield Scott Hancock. The post was founded on 15 June 1886, with around thirty original members from the towns of Alstead, Acworth, Langdon and Charlestown (the latter town would later form its own post). They first gathered at the Alstead hotel, but later moved above the new town hall built in 1891. Their membership at that time was now at 71 veterans.

A 1910 photograph (on pg 247 of Alstead Through the Years: 1763 - 1990) shows the post with ten members. In Oct 1919, only two of them remained, and they surrendered their charter and flags to the American Legion post.
