George W Gordon Post, No. 39

Named for Pembroke native and Allenstown resident George W Gordon, a member of the 2nd New Hampshire Infantry. Having enlisted in May 1861 for three years, he served first as a sgt major. He was promoted to 2nd Lt of Co I in July '61, then to 1st Lt of Co D the following year. He was wounded at 2nd Bull Run on 29 May 1862, and was appointed captain of Co I in Sept of that year. He was wounded at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863, and killed in action at Cold Harbor on 3 June '64.

The Post was mentioned in the 16th annual encampment proceeding of the Department of New Hampshire GAR (Feb 1883), it's December 1882 inspection showed it to be in good running order.

It had been disbanded years prior to the 1898 state encampment, as the post number now belonged to Berlin Falls.
