William I Brown Post, No 31
Penacook, NH (formerly Fisherville)

Organized: 1877 [History of Concord, NH, Vol 1 (pg 534) or May 1875 [1889 Concord City Directory]. They met at the GAR Hall, Sanders Block, on Main St in Penacook.

The Post was named for Major William I Brown, who first served with the 9th New Hampshire as a 1st Lieut and adjutant. He was promoted to major and transferred to the 18th New Hampshire. He was killed at Fort Steadman in March 1865.

There was also a Woman's Relief Corps which served as an auxiliary to this post. Their number was 45.
