Alfred F Holt Camp, No 16
Lyndeborough
Organized on 18 May 1888, with sixteen charter members.
Named for Brigadier General Alfred Fairbanks Holt, a native of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. He had removed to Cambridge, MA prior to his first enlistment of the Civil War,serving with the 3rd Massachusetts Infantry in 1861 as an assistant surgeon. This was followed by a rank of Full Surgeon with the 30th Massachusetts, 2/20/1862 - 11/26/1862. He went on to serve with the 1st Texas Cavalry on 1 Dec 1862, where he was promoted to major in 1864, and to colonel of the regiment in May 1865. He was serving as the Massachusetts Surgeon General at the time of the camp's organization. He died in Martin, Florida on 28 Dec 1890, his body returned home to Lyndeborough for burial.
